Low Pressure Accumulation Conveyor Improves Shipping Efficiency

Accumulation conveyor at shipping warehouseThis distribution center needed a material handling solution to package and ship orders efficiently and ergonomically. As a systems integrator at Thomas Conveyor & Equipment, I provided my customer with the best low pressure accumulation conveyor belt design for their specific application.

The main line conveyor is a Roach Manufacturing belt driven live roller conveyor. This conveyor is ideally suited for side loading, unloading, or temporary accumulation.

Along the main line of the conveyor belt are (9) packing stations and (3) workstations. These modular heavy duty industrial workbenches are utilized to pack individual orders, and they have box storage on top and bottom for easy access.

After the individual orders are packed at the packing stations, the worker then places the box on the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt rollers are not activated until the worker at the end of the conveyor belt main line activates a foot switch on the floor.

Low pressure conveyor for accumulationOnce the package is at the end of the line, the worker weighs the package on a scale / ball transfer table, and puts the shipping label on the box. From there, the package travels down a gravity conveyor roller to another ball transfer table, where the line splits out into two directions - one lane is for UPS packages, and the other for FedEx. These travel down another gravity roller conveyor for accumulation, and stop at a butt end stop.

There are many conveyor types, but this equipment is most commonly used when it is required to move a box from one area to another, while having the ability to load multiple boxes from all sides, with the option for low pressure accumulation. Provided, was a fully completed conveyor systems design. The conveyors and equipment used in this project have proven to be the conveying equipment my customer needed for their automated conveyor system.
